AFRICAN LEADERS AND THE CONCEPT OF POWER

Image
African leaders need to understand the concept of power and respect the rule of law. They need to realise that Power should not be personalised. It shouldn't be exercised to impose their own will. Power should be viewed as sacred if not mystical. It should be seen as a symbol of unity and embodiment of the core values of the society. The attitude of African leaders towards election and re-election must change. Series of illicit activities and actions by African governments before, during and after Elections must stop. Power should be used to create a conducive atmosphere for citizens of such country to realise their highest potentials. If a country desires progress, growth and political stability, the attitude of the government towards power must change. Tosin Durodola Samuel

NIGERIA'S FOUNDING FATHERS: MASKED AUTHOR OF DISASTER

Image
Yes! Nigeria's Independence was realised after spontaneous Nationalist and Independence movements with other external actors involved. Yes! credit should be given to the Elites that risked everything to ensure an Independent Nigeria. However, in recent years, we have overemphasized their contributions to the foundation and development of the country. We have concentrated our resources and efforts to celebrating them for their struggles with the British for the Independence of Nigeria. We have grown to forget that thesame individuals that fought for our Independence are the author of the structural problems facing the country presently. As much as it is good to acknowledge their efforts in the struggle for independence, it is important for Political analysts and Historians to remind the people of the disastrous pace these founding fathers set for the country. We shouldn't present them as "Saint" and keep blaming subsequent leaders for the woes of the countr...

Multilateral Capitalist System: An Enemy in Disguise

Image
The Multilateral capitalist system will do anything to achieve their objectives which is the total exploitation of the peripheral of its raw materials and economy to the benefit of the core. Propagandas, campaigns are just few of the methods used by these powerful organisations to bring down any foreseen obstacle to their objectives. The refusal of President Buhari to devalue Naira has sprung many foreign campaign and propagandas on his decision. I support Buhari's decision not to succor to the external pressure by the Multilateral capitalist organisations to devalue Naira. It has been a vain hope earlier on whether Nigerian leaders will ever stand up against consistent and continuous dictation and control of our economy by the Multilateral capitalist organisations. It is however encouraging that finally President Buhari has joined President Mugabe of Zimbabwe in the war against the Multilateral capitalist organisations on their continuous interference and influence in...

My History, Your History: A National History

Image
We have become ignorant of our history. We have grown to learn not to remember the past. How can a man exist without knowing who he is? How can a society evolve without a past? How can a nation solve it's structural problems when there's no love for History. How can we understand what we've grown not to remember. We don't know who we were and that is why we are where we are. I don't want to live in the shadows anymore. I don't want to remain in the dark any longer. I don't want to exist without knowing my past. My history, Your history, a National history. We were born a Freeman but with an enslaved mind. We grew to hate one another. We created empires to destroy them at the end. We fought, captured, bought, sold and enslaved one another. We started slavery. We blame the Europeans for our woes. We curse them for our calamity. We despise them for the scars that have grown too deep and has taken hold. We loathe them for enslaving and lynching us...
