AFRICAN LEADERS AND THE CONCEPT OF POWER

African leaders need to understand the concept of power and respect the rule of law. They need to realise that Power should not be personalised. It shouldn't be exercised to impose their own will. Power should be viewed as sacred if not mystical. It should be seen as a symbol of unity and embodiment of the core values of the society. The attitude of African leaders towards election and re-election must change. Series of illicit activities and actions by African governments before, during and after Elections must stop. Power should be used to create a conducive atmosphere for citizens of such country to realise their highest potentials. If a country desires progress, growth and political stability, the attitude of the government towards power must change. Tosin Durodola Samuel

NIGERIA'S FOUNDING FATHERS: MASKED AUTHOR OF DISASTER

Yes! Nigeria's Independence was realised after spontaneous Nationalist and Independence movements with other external actors involved. Yes! credit should be given to the Elites that risked everything to ensure an Independent Nigeria. However, in recent years, we have overemphasized their contributions to the foundation and development of the country. We have concentrated our resources and efforts to celebrating them for their struggles with the British for the Independence of Nigeria. We have grown to forget that thesame individuals that fought for our Independence are the author of the structural problems facing the country presently. As much as it is good to acknowledge their efforts in the struggle for independence, it is important for Political analysts and Historians to remind the people of the disastrous pace these founding fathers set for the country. We shouldn't present them as "Saint" and keep blaming subsequent leaders for the woes of the countr...
